The Costa Ballena Region
Uvita is one of 3 towns that make up The Costa Ballena Region. This region is home to the towns of Dominical, Uvita, and Ojochal, the area is known for having rainforests collide with the sea to provide a natural oasis of beauty. Each town in the area has a different vibe with local restaurants and activities sure to meet all your vacation desires.
Nature’s Edge – Centrally Located
Uvita is in the southern province of Puntarenas on the pacific coast of Costa Rica. The town is home to Marino Ballena National Park and the famous whales tail.
Nature’s Edge is centrally located between two other amazing Costa Rican National Parks. To the north, approximately one hour away, lies the famous Manuel Antonio National Park and to the south, approximately two hours away by boat or four hours by car is the Corcovado National Park.
While staying with us you can visit over a dozen of Costa Rica’s most beautiful beaches, 3 refreshing waterfalls where you can hike, take a slide down, or just relax in a swimming hole. Flying into Costa Rica – International and Regional Options
Fly to the Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO)
Be sure you use the airport code SJO and do not end up in San Jose, California. We have had clients make this mistake, so be sure you have booked to the right airport in Costa Rica.
Fly to the Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) and then take a regional flight to Quepos or Palmar Norte/Sur
There are two regional airlines providing connections from the domestic terminal in San Jose to either Quepos (XQP) – approximately 1 hour north of Uvita or Palmar Norte/Sur (PMZ) – approximately 45 minutes south of Uvita.
The approximate flying time to Quepos is 30 minutes and to Palmar Norte/Sur is 40 minutes.
From these regional airports you can take a 4X4 taxi or drive.
Sansa Airlines has flight to and from both of these regional airports.
Costa Rica Green Airways has flights to and from Quepos.
Drive to Uvita – Rental Car (4X4 Required)
After leaving San Jose, the Costanera Sur Highway (#34) takes you south through Jaco, Quepos and then Dominical to Uvita. On average the journey takes 3 1/2 to 4 hours.
If you use a regional airline connection to Quepos or Palmar Sur you will take the same highway but only travel approximately 1 hour to get to us.

Shuttle or Taxi Service to Uvita
There are several options for private shuttle services to Uvita (only a few are 4X4), so in town you may need to transfer to a 4X4 taxi. All prices below are cash prices, some services will charge more if you pay by credit card. Prices are subject to change.
The average cost for a private shuttle from San Jose is $225 to $280 each way and depends on if you come directly to the hotel with a 4X4 service or to the center of town and transfer to a 4X4 taxi.
A shared ride (to Uvita Information Center – not direct to the hotel since it is not a 4X4 is approximately $60 to $90 each way. You can contact EasyRide for shared shuttle services. You will then need to transfer to a 4X4 taxi in town.
Approximate taxi costs from Quepos Airport are $110 each way and from Palmar Norte/Sur $80 each way.
The cost to/from the hotel and Uvita Center is $25 each way.

The Best Route to Nature’s Edge
South from San Jose -> Jaco -> Quepos -> Dominical ->Uvita
North from South Osa -> Palmar Norte (Sur) -> Ojochal -> Uvita
There are toll roads on the route from San Jose. We suggest you exchange at least the equivalent of $6 US Dollars into Costa Rican Colones for the tolls on the highway. If you pay in US Dollars you will get change in Colones.
Directions to the hotel can be found on Google or Waze by typing in Nature’s Edge Boutique Hotel in Uvita.
It is important you follow Route 34 along the coast from San Jose or the same highway inland from the Osa Peninsula.
Route 34 is the best way to Uvita. Once you are on route 34, do not turn off until you get to Uvita.
In Uvita at the main intersection (Gollo and BCR Bank) you will turn left coming from the north (San Jose/Quepos) or right coming from the south (Osa Area/Palmar Norte/Sur) to start the final drive to the hotel.

You may want to stop at the grocery store to get groceries or other essentials for snacking, lunch or dinner. You have a kitchenette in your casita (with free coffee and tea). Our shared kitchen is for your use for cooking a perfect meal to enjoy in the outdoor jungle dining/living area.
