General Policies – T&Cs

We look forward to welcoming you!   By making a booking, you are entering into an agreement with Nature’s Edge Boutique Hotel (JDI Properties LLC SRL).  Please read our terms and conditions of booking below.

Arrival and Departure

***IMPORTANT*** When renting a vehicle, you will need a TRUE 4X4 to get here as the drive up our mountain is steep. Some of the best places to see in Costa Rica are accessible only with a 4×4!   Please be sure to verify with your rental car company before driving away that you have been given a true 4X4 vehicle. If you are local and arriving in your own vehicle, we trust you know how to operate your 4X4 and that it is a true 4X4.

Check in is available from 3:00pm to 7:00pm (15:00 to 19:00) on the day of arrival.   We can accommodate check-in times outside of these hours, but please confirm this with us prior to arrival.  We are a small bed and breakfast style boutique hotel. We live on the property and provide check-in services at your casita between the hours of 3pm and 7pm. Guests checking in after 7pm or when we are not on the property (we will have notified you of such) will be self-check-in. We will message you in WhatsApp with all check-in details.

Your casita may not be available at your requested time, we will do all we can to accommodate your arrival time request.   In the unlikely event your casita is not available when requested, please feel free to hang out at Terraza de Alma.

We ask that you please vacate your casita no later than 10.30am (10:30) on the morning of your departure.

Flexible Reservations

In order to secure your reservation valid credit card details must be provided at the time of booking. Payment from this card is only taken, if the booking is cancelled not following cancelation guidelines (30 days prior your arrival - other than non-refundable reservations), you do not show, or you use the card to pay your folio on departure.  However, we reserve the right to process pre-authorization to the card with a charge equivalent to the casita(s) one-night rate of your reservation or for other agreed upon deposits.

The exception to this policy is for bookings at peak times and/or special events where we reserve the right to take a deposit payment equivalent to the amount agreed upon. You will be informed of this at the time of booking.

Non-Flexible Reservations (Non-Refundable)

Full payment of the reservation will be debited from your credit card provided at time of booking or shortly after the booking is completed.   In exchange for a discounted rate, these reservations are non-refundable and cannot be changed.   All payments for these types of reservations will have additional VAT and other applicable fees/charges added to the rate.

We accept Cash, PayPal and the following Credit Cards; American Express, MasterCard, Visa, and Discover.  Payment is due on the morning of departure unless you are paying cash (cash is due at check-in).

All bookings must be secured by a credit card on file which will be charged unless guest requests otherwise.

We reserve the right to change our prices at any time. This does not affect bookings already made.  Rates are per night per casita.  Nightly rate is the same for 1 or up to the maximum number of 2 adults per casita.

13% VAT (Costa Rican Tax) will be added to your folio sub-total for the nightly rate each night, in addition to charges for any goods or services provided by us. 

We are a small business, so cancellations can have a big impact on us, especially if we have turned away potential guests for someone who has already booked and who then cancels.  We do, however, appreciate that unforeseen circumstances can intervene, and we try to be as sympathetic and helpful as possible in such cases.   Please try not to cancel, but if you need to cancel please contact us to discuss your individual situation.

Reservations made with travel agencies or other online companies may have different policies. We will try to help you with understanding these. Please understand when a reservation is not made direct with us, we may be limited in how we can accommodate changes or cancelations.

  • Flexible Reservations

In order to secure the reservation valid credit or debit card details must be provided at the time of booking. In the event of a cancellation up to 30 days prior to the scheduled date of arrival no charge will be made.

If you cancel your reservation less than 30 days of the scheduled date of arrival cancellation charges equivalent to the total reservation price may be charged.

Guests failing to arrive, without notification, may be responsible to a charge equivalent to the total reservation price.

  • Non-Flexible (Non-Refundable) Reservations 

Full payment of the reservation will be debited from the credit or debit card provided at the time of booking or shortly after. No refund will be offered for cancellations, no-shows and early departures.

Changes or amendments to the reservation will be termed as cancellations and no refund will be offered. We are willing to discuss options with you, please contact us if you need to change a reservation.

We take all bookings in good faith, as we are unable to judge reasons for change, cancellation or non-arrival, guests are reminded that no exceptions to the above conditions will be made and that any booking made with Nature’s Edge Boutique Hotel (JDI Properties LLC) for either accommodations, goods, services, tours/excursions, meals or drinks that are pre-booked (verbal or written) forms a legally binding contract.

Cancellation by Us

In the unlikely event it become necessary for us to cancel a booking we will contact you immediately.  Any payments made will be refunded in full.  Should you like, we can try to assist you with finding comparable accommodations in the area.  Our liability will not extend beyond these conditions.

To protect your travel investment, we advise that you take out a suitable travel insurance product to cover against unexpected costs such as cancellation fees. Click here to get a quote for travel insurance.

Bookings made with outside partners such as online travel providers or other travel companies (any party outside of our direct channel) may be subject to differing terms and conditions in force at the time of booking. These terms and conditions are set by the online provider.  We are not liable/responsible for any such terms and conditions set by these third parties.   Our cancelation/refund policy may still apply to these bookings (whichever policy is more strict applies).

Important General Policies

  • Guests are not permitted to have any pets (excluding assistance animals) on the property/adjoining land. Please advise us prior to arrival if you will be traveling with a well-behaved assistance animal.
  • We regret that Nature’s Edge is not suitable for children under 18 years of age. Nature’s Edge is built on a steep mountainside, with many cliffs. There are no places for children to play, and we are a quiet retreat away from the noises of daily life. Only the sounds of nature will be heard at Nature’s Edge.
  • Do not flush anything but natural wastes down the toilets (use cans provided). Toilet tissue, cigarette butts, paper towels, sanitary tampons, condoms, disposable diapers, anything plastic or similar non-biodegradables MUST NOT be put into the toilet or drains in your casita.  Our septic tank system will malfunction and cause inconveniences to our guests.  Please avoid washing food scraps, coffee grinds, and other food items down the drain. If guests violate this policy we may charge for the cost of repairs.
  • Be sure to tightly seal and do not leave out any open food items on counters or anywhere in the casita.   Be sure all trash bags/cans are always closed and not left open.

Vehicle Parking

Parking is available for guests’ use on the property. Vehicles parked here are at owners’ risk.

Smoking

Smoking, including the use of e-cigarettes, is NOT permitted in any of the casitas or in any of the social areas (The Pool/Rancho Area).   Responsible smoking is allowed outside of the casitas in the graveled parking areas around your casita.   Smoking from inside your casita through an open window is not acceptable.

Please be considerate of other guests with your second-hand smoke and safely clean up cigarette butts.

Please do not dispose of used cigarette butts inside your casita trash cans. We can provide you with a container (cup with water) if needed. Leave this outside your casita. You can dispose of this container in one of the public trash bins outside.

Failure to adhere to this requirement may result in guest(s) being asked to leave the property immediately.

All room charges and additional charges shall become immediately payable by the guest. No refunds of unused nights will be made.

The penalty fee for not adhering to this rule is $250.00 USD.

Again, please note that offending guests may be asked to leave immediately and may be liable for professional cleaning of any casitas and any outstanding balance of nights booked but not taken through early departure.

Damage and Breakages

Please take care of our property.  You are responsible and liable for any breakages or damages which you cause to the accommodation or any of its contents. Please report these as soon as they occur especially if you accidentally spill something – it’s much easier to clean if we know what it is and act quickly.  We do not normally charge for breakages, but we reserve the right to charge for repair or making good if the damage is significant.

Liability

We do not accept any liability for any accidents, damage, loss or injury to any member of your party or any vehicles or possessions, unless proven to be caused by a negligent act by ourselves or our employees whilst acting in the course of their employment.

Keys

You have access to your casita 24 hours a day throughout your stay using a set of keys given to you when you register on arrival.  You have full responsibility of these keys for the duration of your stay.  Lost keys will be charged at $100.00 USD per set plus any additional costs incurred if any additional work is required, such as, locks having to be changed.

Change of Accommodations

If a booking is taken out for a specific casita and the casita reserved is required to meet a specific guest needs or rendered unusable via circumstances beyond our control, we reserve the right to transfer the booking to an alternative casita of similar quality.

Lost Property

We are happy to return items that have been left following departure. However, there will be a reasonable charge to cover postage and packaging.   We will advise you of this charge prior to sending the items to you.

Termination Policy

We reserve the right to judge acceptable levels of noise or/and behavior of our guest(s) or invitees of guest(s).  In the event of failure to comply with any management's requests, we may terminate a booking immediately without being liable for any refund or compensation.   In such circumstances any outstanding account must be settled, and no refunds will be made.

No Discrimination Policy

It is our policy not to discriminate on the grounds of race, color, nationality, sex, marital status, age, ethnic origin, sexual orientation/identity or disability. As responsible hosts we believe that we have a duty to our guests to protect them from inappropriate behavior.  All guests, visitors, property employees, and sub-contractors engaged by or on behalf of the hosts and or guests are expected to adhere to this policy and if violated, may without incurring any liability, immediately be removed from the property. In such circumstances any outstanding account must be settled, and no refunds will be made.

Availability and use of Facilities and Outside Services

We will do its best to ensure that all facilities listed at the property will be available during your stay. However, we cannot guarantee that they will be available as maintenance and other work may be necessary from time to time.

Personal Data/Website Policy

Clients hereby consents to Nature’s Edge Boutique Hotel (JDI Properties LLC) collecting of the client’s personal data such as name, surname, email address, passport/social security number, customer number, address, contact information and details of the bank/credit card account number(s).

The personal data is used for the performance of the contract, for marketing purposes, as a basis for statistics and for product development. We preserve the right to share the client’s personal data in case of emergency and/or when it’s seen as part of our duty of care.  We respect guest privacy and will not sell or disclose guests’ personal information to any other person, business or third party.   Personal information is disclosed to authorities only when it is required by law or by official order.

As a client/guest, you agree to receive marketing information via mail, telephone, e-mail, text messages, and/or any other digital channels. You can be removed from all marketing communications by contacting us.

We will use reasonable efforts to make our websites and its content available to all users. However, it does not warrant or represent that access to this site will be uninterrupted, reliable or fault-free.  To the fullest extent permitted by law neither none of our employees or agents will be liable for damages arising out of or in connection with the use of our website, the information in it or the unavailability of the site or its content.

This is a  comprehensive limitation of liability that applies to all damages of any kind, including (without limitation) compensatory, direct, indirect or consequential damages, loss of data, income or profit, loss of or damage to property and third party claims, save that nothing shall exclude or restrict liability for death or personal injury resulting from the negligence of our employees or agents.  FORCE MAJEURE: We shall not be liable to users for any breach of these conditions of use or any failure to provide or delay in providing our services through our site resulting from any event or circumstance beyond our reasonable control including, without limitation, industrial disputes, breakdown of systems or network access, fire explosion, natural disaster, or accident.

Casita/Property Rules

The following most important rules can be found in every single casita. These rules are inherently part of the Booking Terms & Conditions.  Clients are always expected to adhere to these rules during their stay. Violations of these rules may result in a penalty fee.  Failure to adhere to these rules may result in guests being asked to leave, in which event all charges and additional charges shall become immediately payable by the guest.

The absence of these rules in the casita must be reported to us immediately by the guest and will under no circumstances lead to a situation in which these rules and conditions are invalid.

  • Valid photo identification in the form of a Passport (or other acceptable ID) is required at check-in. If possible, we ask that you send this to us prior to your arrival.
  • We do not allow guests other than those registered to be on the property or in any rooms, thank you for understanding. Violation of this policy may result in guests being asked to leave without any refund.
  • All guests are required to conduct themselves in a reasonable and responsible manner on property and must not act in any way which may disturb other guests or staff.
  • Smoking is strictly prohibited inside any casita or social areas
  • Guests will be responsible for any loss or damage caused to the property by guests or visitors of the guest. Guests may be liable for reasonable cost of repairing/cleaning or replacing any damaged property.
  • Only well-behaved assistance animals are permitted on property by guests.
  • Prior consent must be received for any entertainment, beauty or other services contracted by the guest. Please advise us if you plan to schedule such services.
  • We don’t accept bookings by anyone under the age of 18.  Also, our property is not suitable for children under 18 years of age.  Failure to adhere to these restrictions will result in automatic cancellation with no refund given.
  • Please remember noise travels in the jungle, so we ask you to be courteous to our other guests. Please observe quite time between 8pm and 6am. Quite time simply means keeping your voices low, limiting phone conversations (no speaker phones during this time), and do not play music or other audio loudly. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our jungle peaceful for everyone (including the wildlife).
