Marino Ballena National Park
Whales Tail – Punta Uvita
Experience this natural wonder and the park it calls home. Humpback whales come every year (July to October); they arrive to the park place where there is a rocky/sandy formation that resembles the tail of a whale. Playa Uvita
Playa Uvita is part of the Marino Ballena National Park, fishing and hunting any marine life is strictly prohibited. Swimming conditions are ideal here and there is so much to explore and do. Be sure to experience the beautiful landscape with estuaries and mangrove swamps.
Playa Chaman
Playa Chaman is located within the Marino Ballena National Park. It has a sandy bottom and easy breaking waves. This popular beach has calm waters and a moderated surf.
Playa Hermosa
Playa Hermosa (which translates to beautiful beach in Spanish) will not disappoint as this is very beautiful beach! The beach is located between Uvita and Dominical, in Costa Rica’s Costa Ballena region. Be sure to visit this beach for an amazing sunset and sunrise view.
Playa Colonia
Playa Colonia is located within Ballena National Marine Park. It is south of Playa Uvita along the main highway. This is a safe swimming beach with a view of islands in the distance, which you can visit by kayak.
Playa Pedregosa
Playa Pedregosa is a rocky hidden beach that requires a 4X4 to reach. The waters are clear and the sand brown but due to the rocks swimming a walking barefoot is difficult.
Playa Arco
Playa Arco is located within Ballena National Marine Park. You can only visit this beach during low tide. To explore this beach you will need to hike to it, but it is worth it.
Playa Ballena
Playa Ballena is Located within Ballena National Marine Park. This is a wide beach safe for swimming. The massive trees near the beach give you a true jungle feel. Chances are you’ll see wildlife here.
Playa Pinuelas
Playa Pinuelas is small beach that usually has few tourists. Located within Ballena National Marine Park. The waters are great for swimming or snorkeling.
Playa Ventanas
Playa Ventanas (windows) is know for caves, swimming pools, and a river. Very beautiful and during low tide more caves/windows can be explored.
Playa Dominicalito
Playa Dominicalito is a beautiful smaller bay located south of Dominical. This beach has less surf than Dominical. This shoreline is more rocky. Great for a romantic sunset.
Playa Tortuga
Playa Tortuga is given the name “Turtle Beach” because during turtle season you will see turtles laying eggs. The beautiful scenery and wildlife will inspire you.estled on the Pacific coast, Playa Tortuga in Puntarenas, Costa Rica, is a great stop for travelers who want to enjoy the beach, beautiful scenery and the local wildlife.
Playa Garza
This Beach is at he mouth of the longest in Costa Rica, The Térraba River.
Playa Domimnical
Playa Dominical has a surfers vibe, a number of great restaurants, and eclectic artists selling stuff. You’ll find strong waves and open sea, measures about 4 kilometers and is on the banks of the mouth of the Barú River.
Tide Report
Most of the beaches are best accessed during low tide.
A must is a walk out on to the whales tail (only during low tide). This is a real nature lovers experience! Where else can you walk on a sand bar in the middle of the ocean?
