What Type of Whales Visit Uvita, When, and from Where
Costa Rica Whale watching in Uvita is a favorite adventure tour for visitors to the region.
There are two time periods of the year when The Costa Ballena Region is home to whale watching.
The first starting around the end of July through the middle of November and the other being from the middle of December until beginning of April.
These seasons are based on whale migration patterns. The best time to see the whales are middle of each of the seasons. Remember, you are visiting these amazing creatures in their natural habitat, so you are lucky to see them. They may not always be sighted on every tour.
One of these migrations starts in the southern hemisphere, where the whales travel from Antarctica to Costa Rica. There is also a migration of pacific whales from the northern hemisphere. These whales travel from Alaska to Costa Rica.

Best Time to See Whales – What can I Expect on a Costa Rica Whale Watching Tour
The months of September and October will be the best time to see whales! Obviously, a whale watching tour is best if you see these impressive mammals up close. The tours however are still worthwhile when these gigantic creatures do not come out for us to see. Most adventures/tours are combination experiences offering whale watching along with snorkeling.
The waters of the Marino Ballena National Marine Park are home to schools of dolphins, turtles, fish galore, and birds. So you will be sure to see nature up close and personal, even if you don’t see whales.
Many of the tours will pass the caves and beautiful beaches of the Costa Ballena Region. Some tours depending on the weather may allow you to take a swim in the warm ocean waters.
The Beaches of Costa Ballena stretch for almost 30 miles of beautiful shoreline from Dominical to Ojochal. There are over a dozen beaches in the area to explore.
